Bittensor’s expanding subnet economy has created more investment opportunities for TAO holders, but managing multiple positions can be complicated.
Choosing subnets, comparing validators, allocating funds, and rebalancing portfolios all require time and attention.

Mentat is simplifying this process through a noncustodial platform that allows users to invest in individual subnets or diversified indexes, with automated staking, validator selection, and portfolio management.
Automated Investment Strategies and Indexes
Mentat offers 12 indexes that allow users to gain exposure to different parts of Bittensor’s economy.
Much like traditional investment indexes, these products group multiple assets into a single portfolio, allowing investors to follow broader markets or specific industries without managing every position themselves.
➛ Core Indexes
1. Mentat 5 tracks five leading Bittensor subnets selected by market capitalization. It automatically rebalances as rankings change, keeping the portfolio focused on the largest subnet tokens.
2. Mentat 15 follows the same approach but covers 15 leading subnets. This offers broader exposure and reduces dependence on the performance of just a few projects.

3. Mentat SoS (Sum of Subnets) covers all active Bittensor subnets, with allocations weighted by token price. It provides a broad measure of the subnet market instead of concentrating on a small group.
4. Mentat SoMS (Sum of Mining Subnets) focuses on Bittensor’s mining subnets, using on-chain burn efficiency to determine selections. It tracks a wide range of subnets while applying a different methodology from market capitalization indexes.

➛ Sector Indexes
5. Robotics provides exposure to subnets developing robotics and automation technologies. Its basket includes projects such as OpenRoboto (SN80), SWARM (SN124), and Nepher Robotics (SN49), with holdings adjusted as rankings change.
6. Agents groups subnets developing artificial intelligence (AI) agents and autonomous systems. It offers exposure to projects building software capable of performing tasks and making decisions.
7. AI Training (Artificial Intelligence Training) covers subnets involved in training and improving AI models. Investors gain exposure to projects developing models, training methods, and related technologies.
8. Compute focuses on subnets providing computing resources and infrastructure. These include services supporting graphics processing unit (GPU) rentals, AI workloads, and other computational needs.

9. DeFi (Decentralized Finance) covers subnets developing blockchain-based financial applications. It provides exposure to projects exploring financial services, markets, and decentralized trading infrastructure.
10. Prediction focuses on subnets developing forecasting and prediction systems. These projects apply decentralized intelligence to problems such as market forecasting, weather prediction, and other measurable outcomes.
11. Security groups subnets working on cybersecurity and AI safety. It covers areas such as threat detection, vulnerability testing, and protection against malicious activity.

➛ Team Indexes
12. Macrocosmos groups subnets associated with the Macrocosmos ecosystem i.e. Apex (SN1), IOTA (SN9), and Data Universe (SN13). It allows investors to gain exposure to multiple projects connected to the team’s work through one basket.
➛ Subnets displays all 128 subnets alongside its recent seven-day performance and estimated annual percentage yield (APY), helping users compare investment opportunities before allocating TAO.

Mentat also offers Root and Protected Alpha strategies. Root focuses on optimizing TAO staking rewards, while Protected Alpha retains the principal in TAO and invests earned rewards into selected subnet tokens.
How Mentat Works
Users visit Mentat’s investment platform and click Add beside their preferred subnets or indexes.

They can combine multiple selections and choose what percentage of their TAO goes into each. For example, 10 TAO could be split into 50% Mentat 5, 30% Compute, and 20% Robotics.

Next, users choose their investment speed, either deploying funds directly or gradually through dollar cost averaging (DCA), which spreads purchases over time.

Once the wallet is connected and permissions are approved, Mentat handles supported transactions, validator selection, and rebalancing while users retain custody of their assets.
Making Subnet Investing More Accessible
As Bittensor expands, managing investments across multiple subnets requires increasing research, monitoring, and active decision-making.
Mentat simplifies this process by combining subnet investments, diversified indexes, and automated portfolio management in one platform.
Investors can access different parts of Bittensor’s economy while reducing the need for constant manual portfolio adjustments.
While these tools make subnet investing more accessible, market volatility remains a risk, and investment returns are never guaranteed.
