TAO.com Connects Ethereum Capital to Bittensor Subnets With Cross-Chain Swaps

TAO.com has launched live cross-chain swaps that let users move USDC or ETH on Ethereum directly into Bittensor TAO and subnet tokens, removing several steps that previously stood between outside capital and Bittensor’s subnet economy.

The swaps are live now at TAO.com and can work in both directions. Users can move from Ethereum-based USDC or ETH into a subnet token, then exit back into USDC or ETH.

One swap instead of several steps

Bittensor’s dTAO system gives users access to individual subnets through their alpha tokens. But accessing those markets has traditionally required users to first acquire TAO, withdraw it to a Bittensor wallet, and then swap or stake into the subnet they want.

TAO.com is collapsing that process into a single intent.

The company says swaps can settle within seconds, while users remain in control of their funds and see the fee before confirming.

Co-founder Gyles described the system as an intents-based protocol designed to bring Bittensor to a much larger audience.

“USDC to Alpha in 13 seconds.”

The infrastructure includes LayerZero, with OpenZeppelin and Pashov also named as partners. Steer Protocol has said it is involved in the system as well.

TAO.com says it has spent the past year building the infrastructure, including roughly $200,000 on bringing USDC liquidity to Bittensor through LayerZero alongside audits and other ecosystem costs.

The result is a much simpler path from Ethereum capital to Bittensor subnet exposure.

Opens floodgates to Bittensor

Bittensor has no shortage of subnet assets. The harder problem has been getting new users and capital to them.

That makes liquidity an access problem.

Someone holding USDC on Ethereum no longer necessarily needs to understand Bittensor’s exchange, bridge and subnet-swap process before getting exposure to a subnet. The same applies when they want to leave.

The early reaction on X has focused heavily on this point.

Users described the old on-ramp as one of Bittensor’s most frustrating parts, while others pointed to the ability to exit directly into USDC or ETH without first moving back through TAO.

The potential impact extends beyond traders. It could also lower the barrier for new miners who struggle with Bittensor’s complexity.

Leo, the owner of Almanac (SN41), pointed to a possible workflow where a miner could complete a subnet’s onboarding process, pay the registration fee through Base or Ethereum, and link an EVM wallet to a custodial mining wallet.

From there, the miner’s alpha could accrue in the linked wallet, while withdrawals, unstaking or selling could be handled through TAO.com and sent back to the miner’s EVM wallet.

By this, the miner** could potentially participate without ever having to interact directly with btcli or navigate Bittensor’s native wallet infrastructure.**

The questions users asked (FAQ)

Is this available in the phone app?

Not yet. TAO.com says the feature can currently be accessed through the browser on a phone. It is coming to the native app and other surfaces across the TAO.com ecosystem.

When will TAO.com be available on the UK App Store?

TAO.com said it is working on the issue and hopes to have it available soon. The team described it as a UK-specific jurisdictional issue.

Will TAO.com support Ledger?

This was asked in the launch discussion, but TAO.com has not provided an answer in the thread.

Will TAO.com support more chains?

The current launch focuses on Ethereum, but the team has indicated that more access routes are coming. The specific chains and timing have not been fully announced.

Do I need to buy TAO first?

For the supported swap flow, no. The intent-based system is designed to remove the need to manually buy TAO and then move it into a subnet.

Is this a bridge?

TAO.com describes the system as an intents-based protocol, not simply a bridge. The intent handles the cross-chain transaction and underlying swaps for the user.
