With Hippius (SN75)’s Confidential Computing Service, Even Server Operators Cannot See Your Data

Hippius (SN75) launches Confidential Compute, using hardware encryption to protect sensitive data during processing, even from server operators, across cloud apps and databases.

With Hippius (SN75)’s Confidential Computing Service, Even Server Operators Cannot See Your Data

Hippius (SN75), a Bittensor-based cloud platform, has launched Confidential Compute to help developers protect sensitive information.

The service allows applications and databases to run on servers without exposing their contents to hardware operators.

It uses hardware-based encryption to protect information even while applications are actively processing sensitive data.

Confidential Compute is available to all Hippius users, supporting virtual machines, databases, Kubernetes clusters, and development tools.

Why Confidential Computing Matters

Traditional cloud providers encrypt data while it is stored and when it travels across networks. However, information becomes vulnerable when applications load it into memory for processing on ordinary servers.

Server administrators and infrastructure operators may have access to this information through their underlying systems. This creates additional security concerns for decentralized platforms where independent operators provide the computing infrastructure.

Hippius addresses this challenge using Trusted Execution Environments powered by AMD SEV-SNP processors to encrypt memory. The system also verifies the software environment before unlocking encrypted disks, adding protection against unauthorized access.

What Developers Can Run

Hippius has introduced four Confidential Compute services designed to support different applications and development requirements.

1. Virtual Machines: Developers can deploy encrypted Linux servers running Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and other supported operating systems

2. Managed PostgreSQL: Businesses can deploy PostgreSQL databases to store and manage sensitive customer information and application records.

3. Managed Kubernetes: Developers can operate Kubernetes clusters to deploy and manage applications across confidential virtual machines.

4. GitHub Actions Runners: Development teams can execute automated testing and deployment jobs inside temporary encrypted virtual machines.

These services support applications handling financial records, private documents, customer information, and sensitive development credentials.

How Pricing and Deployment Work

Hippius operates a pay-as-you-go pricing model, charging developers according to their actual computing resource consumption. Billing is calculated per second, with a one-minute minimum and estimated costs displayed before deployment.

Users can allow the network to select a server or choose countries with available verified capacity. When virtual machines are deleted, their encrypted disk data becomes inaccessible through a process called cryptographic erasure.

Building a More Private Decentralized Cloud

Hippius already provides decentralized storage with encryption protecting files during storage and transfer across its network. Confidential Compute extends these protections to information being actively processed by applications running on distributed hardware.

The platform states that server operators cannot directly access the memory or encrypted disks of confidential machines. However, Hippius currently manages disk encryption key releases, meaning this process still depends on its infrastructure.

This launch expands Hippius beyond decentralized storage into cloud computing services designed for privacy-conscious businesses and developers.

Users can access these services through the Hippius Console, where they can deploy confidential computing resources.
