TaoDX Built Root Autopilot to Automate Root Reward Claims Only When It’s Worth It

TaoDX has developed Root Autopilot, a feature that automatically claims Bittensor Root staking rewards when transaction fees are low enough to make the claim worthwhile.

The tool addresses a common problem for smaller stakers, who risk spending a significant portion of their rewards on network fees when claiming manually.

Following Bittensor’s Root Reborn upgrade, staking rewards are no longer automatically converted into TAO. Instead, they accumulate as subnet alpha tokens in validator baskets until users claim them, after which the proceeds are automatically added to their Root stake.

According to on-chain data reported by TaoDX, unclaimed rewards worth approximately 35,200 TAO (roughly $9 million) remained in validator baskets as of October 23, 2026.

How TaoDX’s Root Autopilot Works

Root Autopilot checks users’ available rewards daily and only executes a claim when the estimated network fee is 2% or less of the claim’s value. If claiming would be too expensive, the tool waits for more rewards to accumulate.

For example, claiming $5 in rewards when the transaction costs $2 would consume 40% of the reward. TaoDX’s system avoids such claims by waiting until the amount has grown enough to justify the transaction. Automated claims are limited to once per week per validator.

Users can also view their claimable rewards, estimated transaction fees, and how long it might take for a claim to become worthwhile. These calculations are available for free, while Root Autopilot is included in TaoDX Premium, alongside other features such as tax reports, multi-wallet support, subnet ratings, trading signals, and whale tracking. Premium plans include €25 monthly, $300 yearly, and $600 lifetime access.

How to Use Root Autopilot

Users can access TaoDX through its Telegram Mini App or at taodx.app.

Under Portfolio → Portfolio check → Root yield, they can review their accumulated rewards and the estimated cost of claiming them.

To automate claims, Premium subscribers can open the Autopilot section, select Root Autopilot, and approve a one-time permission through their wallet. They must also maintain a small prepaid balance to cover network fees.

The permission, called RootClaim, is restricted to claiming Root rewards and cannot sell, move, or transfer users’ tokens. Users retain control of their wallets and can revoke the permission at any time.

Once activated, Root Autopilot handles eligible claims automatically, allowing Root stakers to reinvest accumulated rewards without repeatedly checking fees or claiming manually.
