Runtime v468: Cheaper Claims, Copy-Trading, and Active Basket Yields

Bittensor has completed Root Reborn with runtime v468, giving root (SN0) validators a new ability to manage the tokens earned by their stakers.

Before this upgrade, the network handled most of that process automatically. Subnet rewards earned through root were converted into TAO, creating regular selling pressure across subnet tokens.

Root Reborn changed that system by keeping those rewards as subnet tokens inside a basket. Each root validator now has a basket containing the rewards earned by the people who stake with them.

The important change in v468 is that validators can now manage the tokens already inside those baskets. They can move value from one subnet to another, reduce an existing position, or hold some of the basket in TAO.

This gives validators more responsibility over how their stakers’ rewards are managed. A validator is no longer simply receiving new rewards and letting the system handle them automatically.

For stakers, the key point is that their original TAO stake remains separate. The basket contains the rewards earned from that stake, and those rewards can rise or fall in value depending on the tokens held and how the validator manages them.

Bittensor also puts limits around basket trading. Validators cannot freely move unlimited amounts or concentrate everything in one subnet, while price and liquidity checks help prevent extreme trades.

Stakers still remain in control. They can claim their rewards, move to another validator, or leave when they choose.

With v468, Root Reborn now gives Bittensor a complete system for managing root rewards. Instead of automatically selling those rewards for TAO, the network can keep them in the ecosystem and let validators decide where that capital should go.
