Firing Up Hermes Agent on Your Own Compute with Actual (SN95)

Actual (SN95) integrated native support for Hermes Agent by Nous Research, making one of the most effective harnesses in the market work with personal inference capacity out of the box.

Hermes Agent users can now point the desktop harness at their own Actual-powered compute and access it from anywhere without network restrictions. No tailscale to configure, no PyTorch debugging, no lock to a single local machine.

The pairing brings together two of the sharper tools in the current AI stack: Hermes as the harness people already trust for model effectiveness, and Actual (SN95) as the local inference layer built for portability and low CPU impact.

How to Set It Up

The configuration takes two steps inside the Hermes desktop app.

1. Grab an API key: Visit Actual and generate a key linked to an Actual account.

Generate API Keys on Actual

2. Configure the provider: Inside Hermes, navigate to Settings → Providers → API Keys and choose the new Actual Computer provider option, then paste the key.

Configure Actual as a Provider on Hermes

Once the provider is set, Hermes routes inference through the user’s own Actual instance rather than an external service. Personal compute, secure delivery, no infrastructure friction.

Why Hermes and Actual Fit Together

The integration pairs two tools whose strengths are complementary rather than overlapping.

DimensionHermes AgentActual

Infrastructure requiredNone once configuredNone (no tailscale, no VPN, no PyTorch babysitting)

For anyone already using Hermes and interested in running their own compute rather than paying an external provider, the setup takes less than a minute and unlocks personal inference from wherever life takes the user.

The Personal Compute Layer Just Got Sharper

Native Hermes Agent support on Actual quietly closes one of the gaps that kept personal inference from being a real option for serious users.

The best harness in the market now runs on personal compute out of the box, from any network, without the infrastructure headaches that used to make local setups impractical.

For anyone who wanted the privacy and portability of running their own model but did not want to babysit a stack of tooling to make it work, this pairing removes the last friction point.
