Bittensor picked up a meaningful infrastructure upgrade on July 6, when the team behind TAO_dot_com released a fully rebuilt Chrome extension wallet aimed at subnet-native trading, staking, and portfolio management.

The non-custodial extension, live now in the Chrome Web Store, replaces the older Bittensor Wallet build with a redesigned interface and a set of features built around how subnet holdings are managed.

Existing users receive the update automatically, while anyone with auto-updates disabled can switch to the new version manually from their browser.

The launch arrives as subnet activity, fresh exchange listings, and rising retail interest push demand for tooling that keeps pace with the network as it stands today.

Inside the Rebuild

The extension keeps its non-custodial architecture, with private keys staying in user control, and layers subnet-focused workflows on top.

Core additions include:

  • Subnet discovery with live data: browse active subnets and view real-time pricing, volume, 24-hour moves, and performance metrics inside the extension.
  • Direct trading: buy and sell leading subnet tokens including Chutes, Targon, and Score without leaving the wallet.
  • Staking and rewards tracking: stake TAO into subnets and monitor allocations, positions, and automatic reward accrual in a single view.
  • Unified portfolio: one dashboard covering staked funds, subnet holdings, and overall performance over time.
  • Standard wallet functions: secure send and receive for TAO and subnet tokens, with keys held locally.

The extension is positioned as a companion to the existing TAO.com mobile apps, giving users a consistent experience across desktop and phone.

How the Ecosystem Took It

Responses on X to the announcement post skewed positive, with replies concentrating on a few recurring points:

  • The rebuild reads as the first wallet update genuinely shaped around current network usage rather than early-era TAO-holding designs.
  • The cleaner interface and faster flow make subnet browsing and trading more approachable for less technical users.
  • Better subnet access is being treated as infrastructure the ecosystem needs to keep scaling adoption.
  • The alignment between the Chrome extension and the mobile app drew appreciation from users juggling holdings across devices.
  • Forward-looking requests included Ledger hardware support and one-click basket purchases across multiple subnet tokens.

The team has signaled that updates will land on a frequent cadence, pointing to an ongoing roadmap rather than a single release.

Getting Started

Setup follows a short sequence for new and returning users alike:

  1. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store listing by searching “TAO.com: Bittensor wallet” or using the direct link.
  2. Create a fresh non-custodial wallet or import an existing seed phrase, keeping keys under your own control.
  3. Connect to Bittensor, which the extension is pre-configured for, and switch networks only if testnet access is needed.
  4. Open the built-in subnet browser to review live metrics, execute trades, and stake TAO into subnets tracked in the portfolio view.

Where fiat on-ramps are supported, users can fund a wallet via Apple Pay, debit card, or Coinbase before staking or trading. Standard security practices still apply: never share a seed phrase, verify the official listing, and start small when testing any new tool.
