Minos Adds Chromosomes 16 and 17, Taking SN107 to Seven Live Targets

Minos (SN107) has added chromosomes 16 and 17 to its live genomics benchmark, bringing the number of chromosomes currently covered by the network to seven.

The expansion brings two particularly important regions of the human genome into Minos’ live testing environment.

Chromosome 17 contains major cancer-related genes including BRCA1 and TP53. BRCA1 plays a critical role in DNA repair and is strongly associated with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, while TP53 is one of the most important tumor-suppressor genes in human biology.

Chromosome 16 brings another set of clinically significant targets. It contains PKD1, a major gene associated with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease, as well as HBA1 and HBA2, which are involved in alpha-thalassemia and other blood disorders.

That makes the latest expansion more than simply two additional chromosomes. Minos is now testing variant detection across genomic regions directly relevant to cancer, kidney disease and inherited blood disorders.

The move also advances Minos’ longer-term objective of expanding its genomic coverage toward the entire human genome.

With chromosomes 16 through 22 now live, the subnet has moved beyond its initial compact targets and into a broader set of clinically significant regions.

For Minos, every new chromosome expands the range of genomic variation that miners must accurately detect and gives the network more ground-truth data to work with.
