How to Mine Hippius (SN75): Get Paid for Providing Storage Space

Learn how to mine Hippius and earn rewards by providing storage space. Get the hardware requirements, setup steps, and tools to monitor your storage mining earnings.

How to Mine Hippius (SN75): Get Paid for Providing Storage Space

Spare storage can serve a purpose beyond sitting unused on a server. Hippius (SN75), a decentralized cloud storage network on Bittensor, allows operators to earn rewards by storing and serving user data.

Why Use Hippius

Its Arion storage network distributes encrypted file fragments across independent machines. Miners keep those fragments available and answer checks proving they still hold the assigned data.

No GPU is required, but operators need suitable hardware, reliable connectivity, and some familiarity with running a Linux server.

Why Storage Providers Are Joining Hippius

Hippius gives operators a way to earn from infrastructure that supports file storage and retrieval. Three factors influence a miner’s earnings:

1. Bandwidth Served: The amount of data your machine delivers when files are requested.

2. Storage Held: The volume of assigned data your machine stores.

3. Uptime and Reliability: How consistently your machine stays available and successfully answers network checks.

These checks help establish that miners are providing the service they claim to offer. Providing more disk space alone does not guarantee higher earnings; the machine must receive assignments and perform reliably.

Track Your Storage Mining Earnings

The Hippius Provider Dashboard gives operators a place to monitor their storage nodes and payouts. It helps show whether a node is active and how it is performing.

Hippius Provider Dashboard

The dashboard displays node status, uptime, stored fragments, and performance records. Its earnings page lists actual storage payouts and allows operators to export them as a .CSV file.

Comparing these payouts with electricity, internet, and maintenance expenses helps operators assess profitability. This is particularly useful before purchasing additional hardware or expanding storage capacity.

What You Need to Become a Storage Miner

Hippius requires a Linux machine that can run both a blockchain node and the Arion miner. The blockchain node synchronizes network information, while Arion handles the storage work.

The storage miner overview lists the following specifications:

1. Operating System: Ubuntu 22.04 or a comparable modern Linux distribution.

2. Processor: At least four dedicated CPU cores.

3. Memory: At least 16 GB RAM, with 32 GB or more recommended for ZFS configurations.

4. Storage: At least 2 TB of usable data storage, plus 100 GB or more of SSD space for the blockchain.

5. Connection: A 1 Gbps internet connection with a static public IP address.

NVMe or enterprise SSDs are preferred for data storage, and a static public IP provides a consistent address through which the machine can be reached.

Three Steps to Start Earning on Hippius

Getting started involves preparing your accounts, installing the software, and registering your storage node.

1. Prepare Your Accounts and Blockchain Node

Follow the official guide to install and synchronize a Hippius blockchain node. The account used as your storage family must first be registered as a miner hotkey on SN75. A family groups the storage nodes you operate under one main account.

2. Install the Arion Miner

Configure the miner’s storage directory, capacity, and network connections using the Arion setup guide. This software stores assigned file fragments and responds to storage checks. Back up the generated miner keypair securely, as it identifies your node. Ansible deployment tools can automate parts of the setup.

3. Register Your Storage Node

Link your operator wallet to the Provider Dashboard, select the storage node registration option, and follow the instructions. You will generate registration data on your server and sign the required transactions through your wallet.

Put Your Spare Storage to Work

Hippius offers server operators a way to earn from spare capacity while supporting decentralized cloud storage. It may suit people who already have compatible hardware and dependable power and internet access.

Actual returns depend on miner performance, operating expenses, and the value of rewards. Review the Official Docs before committing hardware, then use received payouts to decide whether expanding makes financial sense.
