Targon (SN4) used revenue from its compute marketplace to buy back and burn approximately $2.1 million worth of its alpha token across two announced transactions.
The subnet operates a secure compute cloud, providing high-performance GPUs and CPUs to AI developers. According to the team, the buybacks were funded entirely by revenue earned through the platform.
Targon announced the purchase and burn of SN4 alpha worth 1,772 TAO (∼$445,000), as well as an additional burn worth 6,678 TAO (∼$1.7 million), from the same revenue source. Together, it is approximately 8,450 TAO worth of alpha purchased and burned.
A seven-day report published by The TAO Daily yesterday recorded 9,343 TAO worth of manual alpha burns and recycles across Bittensor.
That total was valued at ∼$2.39 million at a TAO price of $256.28. Targon accounted for 8,536 TAO worth, representing more than 91% of the reported network total.
Vanta (SN8) followed with 434 TAO worth, while Engy (SN53) recorded 146 TAO and Cacheon recorded 79.24 TAO. Smaller contributions came from TrajectoryRL (SN11), TAOstatus (SN104), Ridges (SN62), KubeTEE (SN90), OpenRoboto (SN80), and Score (SN44).
Targon’s activity demonstrates how external customer spending can feed into a subnet’s token economy.
Customers pay for compute, the platform earns revenue, and part of that revenue funds alpha purchases and burns, permanently removing the purchased tokens from circulation.
Continued demand and future buybacks will determine whether this pattern lasts. These transactions show how compute sales can fund reductions in alpha supply.
