Tao Private Network (TPN), subnet 65 on Bittensor, has just reached a major milestone. Tao Private Network (TPN) is a decentralized, blockchain-incentivized VPN that provides secure, anonymous, and censorship-resistant internet access. Built as a Bittensor subnet, it transforms private connectivity into a tradable digital commodity within the ecosystem.
TPN has built a new system, a federated network, that lets many more computers (nodes) connect and work together smoothly. Until now, Bittensor had a cap of 250 nodes, but this upgrade removes that barrier, giving way to infinite scalability—meaning the network can now keep growing without limits, allowing it to scale as big as needed.
From 2 Roles to 3
The old structure of just Validators and Miners wasn’t enough for long-term growth. TPN is now introducing a three-tier system:
a. Miners (Now Mining Pools) – act as coordinators, keeping track of registered sub-workers and reporting their status.
b. Sub-workers – lightweight nodes (Docker-based) that attach to pools and do the actual heavy lifting.
c. Validators – continuously test workers through pools, measure performance, and compute scores off-chain.
The Neuron’s New Job
With this design, the neuron becomes much lighter. Instead of managing constant on-chain traffic, it only:
a. Broadcasts protocol information.
b. Reads validator scores roughly every 90 minutes.
This cuts out on-chain noise while keeping results transparent and reliable.
Why It Matters
This new architecture isn’t just a technical tweak—it fundamentally reshapes how TPN can scale:
a. No 250 cap – limitless worker expansion.
b. Efficiency – less on-chain traffic, smoother operations.
c. Resilience – cleaner role separation and more fault tolerance.
d. Diversity – more ways for contributors to participate.
The Implication of this Upgrade
This upgrade is a big step forward for TPN and the wider Bittensor ecosystem. By moving past technical limits and introducing a more flexible design, TPN is setting the stage for true large-scale participation. The foundation is now in place—what comes next is building out a network that can keep growing without compromise.
