Dippy AI, an AI companion platform built on Bittensor’s decentralized network, has claimed the lead in user engagement time among popular AI friend apps, according to SimilarWeb. The announcement highlights growing traction for AI-driven social tools and underscores Bittensor’s role in powering innovative crypto-integrated applications.
In a post on X, Dippy AI shared a graphic showing average user session times, positioning itself ahead of centralized competitors like PolyBuzz, Character.AI, and Janitor AI.

The data listed Dippy at 21 minutes and 11 seconds per session, followed by PolyBuzz at 19:15, Character.AI at 18:05, and Janitor AI at 16:55.
Dippy AI operates as a free, unlimited chat and roleplay platform where users interact with proactive AI characters designed to remember personal details, offer emotional support, and encourage daily engagement.
Available on web, iOS, and Android, the app emphasizes personalized conversations, with AI friends adapting to users’ likes, dislikes, and inner thoughts. Its integration with Bittensor’s Subnet 11 allows it to leverage a decentralized machine learning framework, where validators and miners contribute to AI model training in exchange for $TAO rewards.
This milestone comes amid explosive growth in the AI companion sector. According to app intelligence firm Appfigures, AI companion apps—excluding major players like ChatGPT—generated $221 million in global consumer spending as of July 2025, with projections to reach $120 million in annual revenue for the category.
The segment has seen 337 active revenue-generating apps worldwide, with 128 launched in 2025 alone. Popular participants like PolyBuzz, which offers immersive character-based chats on its platform polybuzz.ai, and giants like Character.AI, have collectively driven 220 million downloads across app stores.
Industry analysts point to high user stickiness as a key driver. For instance, some AI companion apps report average daily usage exceeding 100 minutes per user, approaching levels seen in short-video platforms.
Venture firm Andreessen Horowitz’s latest ranking of top generative AI consumer apps also notes that companionship tools are becoming mainstream, with products like Character.AI boasting unusually high daily engagement.
For Bittensor ($TAO), Dippy’s success could signal broader adoption. Bittensor’s network enables permissionless innovation, where subnets like Dippy’s focus on specialized AI tasks such as conversational agents.
As AI companions evolve, blending emotional intelligence with blockchain incentives, projects like Dippy AI may pave the way for more decentralized social experiences. However, experts caution that while these tools offer convenience, they complement rather than replace human connections.
With the market projected to hit $174 billion by 2031, the space remains ripe for innovation—and competition.
