Since entering crypto in 2016, Iβve liked many different projects. Some Iβve liked for years β but aside from Bitcoin, I never really found a βhome.β
Crypto is still 99% noise: empty promises, announcements of announcements, and endless nonsense.
Then I found Bittensor.
For the first six months, I thought it was pie-in-the-sky and ignored it. But like any early project with real substance, it kept evolving. And now, in Q3 2025, itβs far more advanced than I expected β thanks to its open-source structure and the ferocious competition among miners.
Where Bitcoin created a decentralized arena of competition for hashrate, Bittensor created dozens of incentive mechanisms. Not just compute β but many different types of useful work.
Where Bitcoin rewards miners with 100% of emissions, Bittensor distributes emissions differently:
- 41% to miners
- 41% to validators
- 18% to subnet owners
The result? A true Proof of Useful Work system⦠and a candy shop of world-best AI capabilities emerging inside one network.
If a typical crypto project achieved a world-best in one category, theyβd market it non-stop. Meanwhile Bittensor β right now β is quietly home to:
π Worldβs best data scraping/curation/generation β Macrocosmos AI
π Worldβs best data cleaning & labelling β ReadyAI
π Worldβs best distributed pre-training β Macrocosmos AI
π Worldβs best distributed training β Templar
π Worldβs best 1Auto ML β Gradients
π Worldβs best novel drug discovery & synthesis β Metanova Labs
π Worldβs best SSL for AI β Inference Labs
π Worldβs best sports computer vision & labelling β Score
π Worldβs best coding assistant β Ridges
π Worldβs best deepfake detection β BitMind Labs
π Worldβs best & cheapest compute β Targon, Chutes, Lium
π Worldβs best & cheapest inference β Targon, Chutes_ai
π Worldβs best video upscaling & compression β Vidaio
π Worldβs best decentralized cloud storage β Hippius
π Worldβs best weather forecasting β Zeus Gaia
π Worldβs best quantum computing simulations? β qBitTensor Labs
β¦and the list goes on.
Itβs almost absurd. All these leading-edge capabilities built under one umbrella: Bittensor. And the single value-capture asset for the entire ecosystem is $TAO.
Just like Alphabet contains many companies but the equity is $GOOG, Bittensor contains dozens of AI startups β and their liquidity funnels through TAO.
Unlike Ethereum, where an L2 might have zero impact on ETH, every Bittensor subnet has its own token and liquidity pool. And the only way to get those tokens is by buying TAO and swapping it.
It only takes one subnet hitting terminal velocity β becoming a real-world unicorn β to pull TAO up with it.
A clear example is Subnet 62 (Ridges): A direct competitor to Claude Code, Cursor, and Devin β companies with billions in ARR. Within weeks (or a month or two), Ridges will surpass them technically, and they wonβt be able to catch up. What would a startup like that be worth? Billions in market cap?
And yetβ¦
Despite all of this, Bittensor is still under the radar at a $3.2B market cap β because it is terrible at marketing. Maybe the worst in the space. Thatβs why this post exists.
Like Bitcoin, TAO has a capped supply of 21 million tokens and halving every 4 years. The subnets also have a 21M cap with a 2-year halving schedule.
Bittensor is now my home. Iβm building businesses around it and even launched the worldβs first Bittensor-dedicated hedge fund, DSV Fund, to support the ecosystem.
There is no better research you can do for your crypto portfolio β and your future net worth β than spending at least 10 hours studying Bittensor.
Your future self will thank you.
