MANTIS to Retire ETHHITFIRST Challenge, Redistribute Emissions

MANTIS (SN123) is retiring its ‘ETHHITFIRST’ Ethereum prediction challenge and redistributing its 5% emission share across remaining tasks to refocus miner rewards on valuable signals.

MANTIS to Retire ETHHITFIRST Challenge, Redistribute Emissions

Not every experiment in a decentralized network needs to run forever. Sometimes, improving the system means retiring a task and directing its rewards toward more valuable activities.

That is what is happening on MANTIS (SN123), where the ETHHITFIRST prediction challenge is being discontinued and its share of emissions redistributed across the network’s remaining challenges.

MANTIS (SN123) is a marketplace where miners compete to generate financial market predictions covering price movements, volatility, market breakouts, and trading opportunities. Validators evaluate the unique predictive value of these signals to determine how miners are rewarded.

MANTIS’ Network Overview

ETHHITFIRST challenged miners to predict whether Ethereum would reach an upper or lower price level first, or neither, within approximately 100 minutes.

Participants submitted probabilities for all three outcomes, with price levels determined by recent market volatility. The challenge covered roughly 500 Ethereum blocks and accounted for ~5% of SN123 emissions.

Under the upcoming validator update, ETHHITFIRST’s emission weight will be reduced to zero. Its allocation will be distributed proportionally across the remaining challenges based on their existing weights, without changing their relative shares.

ETHHITFIRST’s Emissions Weight

Miners will not need to re-register or modify their submission formats. Any ETHHITFIRST predictions submitted after the update will simply be ignored without penalties or effects on scoring. The change will take effect during the first weight calculation after validators install the release.

The update also includes improvements to cluster detection and deduplication logic, which may affect how rewards are distributed within the ETH LBFGS and BTC LBFGS challenges.

For miners who focused heavily on ETHHITFIRST, the retirement means shifting their efforts toward other supported tasks to continue earning rewards.

Those already participating across multiple challenges may benefit from the additional emissions, although individual earnings will still depend on performance and competition.

The adjustment reflects MANTIS (SN123)‘s ongoing refinement of its incentive structure, concentrating emissions on the prediction tasks it considers most useful.
